Work details
Responsibilities:
Contribute to capital markets and asset allocation research efforts across all asset classes by understanding the key drivers of asset markets and identifying attractive new investment strategies and asset classes.
Collaborate with Morningstar’s research partners to leverage our global network in formulating recommendations for implementation across the portfolios.
Prepare research and recommendation summaries for use by both internal and external investment committees as well as discussing the advantages and disadvantages and key risks of investment strategies.
Contribute to the ongoing research agenda in cooperation with the Investments team.
Develop, enhance and maintain our own portfolios and client portfolios.
Work collaboratively with global investment professionals to continue to build a leading global investment management business and deliver better investing outcomes to our clients.
Proactively participate in the global investment meetings.
Proactively work with other groups to support the one Morningstar goal, and specifically work with sales team to maximize the external offerings to all clients.
Assist to build and maintain an external profile for MIM as a thought leadership brand through publications, media engagements, conference presentations and client meetings.
Contribute to the relationship management for our clients and presenting at investment conferences.
Support and contribute to marketing, sales and distribution here in Japan.
Perform other duties as necessary.
Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree is required; CMA or CFA designation is highly desirable.
1-5 years relevant investment industry experience, preferably multi-asset portfolios, together with experience in collaborating with offshore investment professionals.
A flexible and adaptable attitude, and a willingness to share ideas with a team.
Understanding of traditional finance, economics, investing and behavioral finance.
Good understanding of capital market theories including asset valuation and risk, and theories of combining assets into a multi-asset portfolio.
Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a high-performance team environment with limited oversight.
Experience implementing portfolios using several different assets – Equities, Fixed Income and FX through direct securities, futures, ETFs and external managers as examples.
Capabilities in asset allocation, manager and security selection including ETFs, multi-manager funds and direct securities
Comfortable working in a quantitative environment and have knowledge of market investment tools (Bloomberg etc.).
Communication skills in English. May not need to be fluent but need to communicate with Investment Management group professionals around the world.
Capabilities in an operation orientation. Capable, involved in operations and processes.
