External Communication Manager is responsible for developing and implementing an organization’s
comprehensive external communication strategy, communication plan with effective tactics to tell a story
of a company and increase a company reputation by closely working with internal functions and internal
communication colleagues and utilizing multiple external channels.
Especially the Manager has to ensure effective media coverage by building relationships with media and
analyzing media interests. As an External Communication Manager you will develop content and stories
for multiple channels including press material and social media.
You will develop top management’s external communication strategy. This includes the development of
messages and the creation of opportunities of dialogue between the management and media to increase understanding of an organization. You have to be an advisor to top management by providing
external perceptions.
Requirements
Excellent writing and editing skills for press material, top management messages in Japanese and
English
Awareness of the PR significance of social media is increasingly important.
Inter-personal skills are vital for developing relationships with media representatives, handling difficult
situations and advising people within your organization.
You will need speaking and presentation skills and the ability to proactively develop strategies together
with tactics needed to achieve your ambitions.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in public relations, either in-house or in an agency, is a minimum. A track record
of developing and delivering communication strategies is desirable, as is experience of working closely with
journalists and responding to media requests.
