Job Description
The Associate Director, Corporate Communications, Japan is responsible for leading internal and external communications in Japan, as well as supporting Insmed’s overall
corporate communications strategy. The Associate Director will also be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with key patient advocacy groups and leading local
community partnership and outreach activities.
The ideal candidate will have outstanding writing and editing skills, comfort and adeptness with various technologies, strong business acumen, and a clear understanding of the
Japanese media landscape. As a member of a small communications team based primarily in the U.S., the ideal candidate must be a proactive self-starter who is comfortable
operating independently at times.
This role reports to the Senior Director, Corporate Communications (based in the U.S.), with a dotted line to the Director, Pricing & Market Access Lead, Japan.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Inform, educate, and engage local employees around Insmed’s business and culture, including planning and executing local Town Halls and other key events; help ensure
that information from global company events is appropriately cascaded to employees in Japan
• Support the General Manager, Japan with office-wide communications, as needed
• Serve as main point of contact with local media as well as first point of contact for general corporate inquiries
• Ensure consistent and accurate pull-through of corporate mission, vision, branding, values, culture, and strategy into all communications
• Manage the local corporate website, insmed.jp, to keep content current and aligned with the global corporate website
• Partner closely with U.S. colleagues to ensure key milestones and activities in Japanare communicated externally and internally on a global level, including on the
company’s corporate social media channels and on the intranet; take the lead on developing intranet content regarding activities in Japan
• Develop local press releases, as needed, for milestones that will be communicated only in Japan; partner closely with U.S. colleagues to translate and secure local review of
global press releases, as needed
• Elevate awareness of Company and Products in Japan via media outreach and other public relations tactics; oversee local public relations agency to develop and
implement PR strategies
• Liaise with patient advocacy groups in Japan for brand awareness activities and to ensure the patient voice is reflected in company communications
• Develop and manage relationships with community partners and organizations that we may engage with for corporate social responsibility efforts
Requirements
• 7+ years’ experience in public relations and communications, with experience in both internal and external communications in the biopharmaceutical industry; experience working for a global company preferred
• Familiarity with local healthcare industry regulations
• Existing relationships with local healthcare media
• Outstanding written and verbal communications skills, including a strong command of English
• Comfort and experience working on the back end of websites and intranet platforms to manage content
• Ability to give clear direction to vendors/agencies regarding communications strategies
• Ability to work effectively and efficiently under tight deadlines and across functions and geographies, including partnering effectively with Marketing, HR, Legal,
Regulatory, Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, IT, and others, as needed
• Proven ability to take a project from idea to implementation
• Ability to prioritize competing activities and communicate effectively in a fast-paced, complex environment
• Bachelor’s degree required
• An uncompromising ethical standard and level of conduct are essential.
• Must successfully exhibit five (5) core corporate competencies of:

• Non-smoker
• Travel up to 10% (domestic and international), some of which will be overnight
